Ian Stoney taught Physics at the independent Bradford Grammar School. He was an officer in the school’s Combined Cadet Force, and was appointed Contingent Commander in the rank of squadron leader. He was also a founder member of the independent 269 Battery , Royal Artillery, eventually commanding the Battery in the rank of major. Following his time with the battery he transferred to the Leeds University Officer’s Training Corps as second-incommand.
He is the secretary/treasurer of the West Riding Artillery Trust. Following retirement he became the secretary of the Leeds Defence Studies Dining Club, and has worked for the armed forces charity SSAFA as its county treasurer, and is now secretary of the SSAFA Carmichael-Walker Trust. He is also a vice-president of the Leeds Branch Royal British Legion, a member of the Leeds University Military Education Committee and a committee member of the Council of Military Education Committees. He is still employed at Bradford Grammar School as an invigilator of public examinations.
His interests include reading, listening to music and mountain walking.
