Tim Hare was born on 7 June 1948, son of the late Ronald Hare and Mrs Hazel Mary Hare. He was educated at Uppingham School and the Leeds College of Commerce, where he gained a Business Management Diploma and in 1968 he joined the family firm of James Hare Ltd, manufacturers and merchants of men’s and ladies woollens and worsteds. He worked in Germany, Austria and Belgium with associated companies and in 1973 joined Illingworth Morris Ltd. He was appointed export Sales Director of Salts of Saltaire in 1982 and the following year rejoined James Hare Ltd where he spearheaded a new silk business and developed a property portfolio. He is currently managing director of James Hare Ltd and is a director of Harecroft Estates (agricultural and commercial investors) and of North Deighton Farms.
In 1977 he married Diana Marion Trigg of Bishops Waltham, Hampshire. They have had four children, Charles, Georgina, Amy and Clarissa. Georgina died at the age of seven. The family live at the Old Hall, North Deighton, Wetherby.
Tim was a member of the Leeds Charity Ball Committee, 1973-98, and a trustee of Martin House Children’s Hospice, 2007-10. He was High Sheriff of West Yorkshire 2005-6, became a Deputy Lieutenant in 2007 and Vice Lord-Lieutenant in 2012. His interests include country pursuits, classic cars, gardening, golf, breeding Alpacas, wine and travel.
