Helen Thomson – Vice Lord-Lieutenant
Helen Thomson was born on 12th May 1958 in Leeds and educated at Leeds Girls High School. She trained as a nurse and midwife in Leeds going on to work in midwifery education. She undertook a degree in management at Leeds University and a Masters degree in Innovation and Change at York University. She was appointed to the role of Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust, retiring in 2014 and subsequently undertaking a number of health care improvement assignments within the NHS.
Helen is a former Council member of the University of Huddersfield and a former Trustee of Next Steps Trust. She is currently a Trustee of Sue Ryder and a Non-Executive Director and Vice Chair of Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust. She was appointed Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire in 2012.
Helen is married with 2 adult children.
